Laser Tattoo Removal
in Simple Terms
Laser tattoo removal uses targeted pulses of light to break tattoo ink into smaller particles. Your body then gradually clears these particles through its natural processes, causing the tattoo to fade over time.
At La Unique Laser Centre, we use the Alma Harmony machine for tattoo removal. Every treatment plan is personalized based on your tattoo, skin type, ink depth, ink colour and goals.

What to Expect
Before, During
and After
Before
Your appointment begins with a consultation. We will assess your tattoo, skin type, health history and desired outcome before recommending a personalized treatment plan.
You may be asked to avoid tanning and direct sun exposure before treatment. A test patch may also be recommended to evaluate how your skin and tattoo ink respond to the laser.
During
The treatment area is cleaned, and protective eyewear is provided. Short pulses of laser energy are delivered across the tattoo.
You may feel a snapping or stinging sensation. Cooling methods may be used to help keep you comfortable. Smaller tattoos can often be treated within a few minutes, while larger or more detailed tattoos may take longer.
After
Redness, swelling, tenderness, whitening of the treated area, blistering or scabbing may occur temporarily. These responses can be a normal part of the healing process.
You will receive aftercare instructions based on your treatment. It is important to keep the area clean and protected, avoid picking or scratching the skin and limit sun exposure while it heals.
The tattoo will gradually fade in the weeks following treatment as your body processes the broken-down ink particles.
Common Questions About ClearLift
How does laser tattoo removal work?
The laser delivers targeted energy into the tattoo pigment, breaking the ink into smaller particles. Your body gradually clears these particles, causing the tattoo to fade over a series of treatments.
Can my tattoo be removed completely?
Some tattoos respond very well to treatment, but complete removal cannot be guaranteed. Results depend on the tattoo’s colour, depth, age, size, location, ink composition and how your body responds.
Some clients choose significant fading rather than complete removal so that a tattoo artist can create a new cover-up design.
How many sessions will I need?
Most tattoos require multiple treatments. The total number of sessions varies depending on the tattoo’s size, colours, depth, age, location and ink density.
Older, smaller and less complex tattoos may respond more quickly. Newer, heavily saturated or multicoloured tattoos may require additional sessions. We will provide a personalized estimate after assessing your tattoo.
How far apart are treatments scheduled?
Appointments are typically spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and give the body time to process the fragmented ink. Your technician will recommend an appropriate treatment schedule based on your skin and progress.
Does tattoo removal hurt?
Laser tattoo removal can be uncomfortable. Many clients describe the sensation as similar to an elastic band snapping against the skin. Treatment is usually brief, and cooling techniques may be used to improve comfort.
Which tattoo colours can be treated?
Many tattoo colours can be treated, but certain pigments respond more easily than others. Darker inks often respond well, while some lighter or brighter colours may require additional treatments. Your tattoo will be assessed during your consultation.
Is laser tattoo removal suitable for all skin types?
Treatment may be suitable for a wide range of skin tones. However, laser settings must be carefully selected based on your skin type, tattoo pigment and individual risk factors. A consultation and test patch may be recommended before beginning treatment.
What should I expect after a session?
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering or scabbing may occur. The area may feel similar to a mild sunburn. These effects generally settle as the skin heals.
Following your aftercare instructions is essential to support healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Is there any downtime?
Most clients can return to their regular routine after treatment, but the treated area will need time to heal. You may need to temporarily avoid swimming, saunas, intense exercise, friction and direct sun exposure, depending on the treatment area and your technician’s instructions.
Are there possible side effects?
Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering, scabbing and changes in skin pigmentation. Infection and scarring are less common but possible. Proper treatment settings and careful aftercare help reduce these risks.
How much does tattoo removal cost?
Pricing depends on the tattoo’s size, colours, complexity and estimated treatment time. Because every tattoo is different, an accurate quote can only be provided after an assessment.
