Dermaplaning
in Simple Terms

Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-surgical exfoliating treatment that uses a sterile blade to carefully remove built-up dead skin cells and fine facial hair, often called peach fuzz, from the surface of the skin.

At La Unique Laser Centre, your treatment begins with a thorough cleanse followed by the application of skin oil. Your technician then performs dermaplaning using controlled, precise strokes. The service finishes with recovery balm to soothe and replenish the skin, followed by sunscreen to help protect your freshly exfoliated complexion.

Dermaplaning in Action

Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliating treatment that uses a sterile blade to remove built-up dead skin cells and fine facial hair, commonly known as peach fuzz. It helps improve dullness and uneven texture while leaving the skin smoother, brighter and more refreshed.

At La Unique Laser Centre, the skin is first cleansed and prepared with skin oil. Dermaplaning is then performed using careful, controlled strokes before recovery balm and sunscreen are applied to soothe, hydrate and protect the freshly exfoliated skin.

What to Expect
Before, During
and After

Before

Your appointment begins with a brief consultation to review your skin, sensitivities, current products and treatment goals. Please tell us about any active acne, rashes, cold sores, cuts, sunburn, recent facial procedures or medications that may affect skin sensitivity.

You may be advised to pause retinoids, strong exfoliating products or other irritating skincare before your appointment. Avoid waxing or other treatments that may leave the skin sensitive immediately before dermaplaning, and follow any preparation instructions provided by your technician.

During

Your skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oil and surface impurities. A skin oil is then applied to provide slip and support a smooth, comfortable treatment.

Using a sterile dermaplaning blade, your technician carefully glides across the skin in controlled strokes to remove dead surface cells and fine facial hair. Once dermaplaning is complete, recovery balm is applied to calm and hydrate the skin, followed by sunscreen for daytime protection.

After

Your skin should feel noticeably smoother and may appear brighter immediately after treatment. Mild temporary pinkness, dryness, tightness or sensitivity can occur, particularly if your skin is reactive.

Keep your routine gentle while the skin settles. Avoid scrubs, retinoids, strong acids, excessive heat, steam and direct sun exposure for the period recommended by your technician. Apply sunscreen daily and avoid picking, rubbing or using harsh products on the treated skin.

Common Questions About Dermaplaning

What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliating treatment that uses a sterile blade to gently remove dead surface skin cells and fine facial hair. It leaves the skin feeling smoother and looking brighter and more refreshed.
What does the treatment include?
Our treatment includes cleansing, the application of skin oil, professional dermaplaning, recovery balm and sunscreen. Each step is designed to prepare, exfoliate, soothe and protect the skin.
How does dermaplaning work?
Your technician holds a sterile blade at a controlled angle and moves it carefully across the skin. This lifts away built-up dead skin cells and fine vellus hair from the surface without affecting the hair follicle.
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning can smooth rough texture, brighten dull-looking skin, remove peach fuzz and create a more even surface for skincare and makeup. Many clients notice an immediate improvement in softness and radiance.
Will my facial hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. Dermaplaning does not change the structure, colour or growth pattern of the hair follicle. Fine facial hair grows back with the same characteristics it had before treatment, although it may briefly feel different as it begins to return.
Is dermaplaning suitable for all skin types?
Dermaplaning can be suitable for many skin types, including dry or dull-looking skin. It may not be appropriate when the skin is actively inflamed, infected, sunburned or experiencing certain conditions. Your technician will assess your skin before treatment.
Can I have dermaplaning if I have acne?
Dermaplaning may be suitable when acne is mild and not inflamed, but it should not be performed directly over active, raised or open breakouts. Your technician will assess your skin and may recommend postponing or modifying treatment.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
Dermaplaning should not be painful. Most clients describe a light scraping or brushing sensation. Tell your technician if you experience discomfort so the technique can be adjusted.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Arrive with clean skin when possible. Avoid waxing and strong exfoliating products immediately before treatment. If you use retinoids, acids or prescription skincare, ask your technician when to pause and restart them.
What should I expect after dermaplaning?
Your skin should feel smoother and may look brighter right away. Temporary pinkness, tightness, dryness or sensitivity may occur. Recovery balm and sunscreen are applied at the end of the treatment to soothe and protect the skin.
Is there any downtime?
Dermaplaning generally requires little to no downtime. Most clients return to their regular routine, but the skin should be treated gently and protected from heat, harsh products and sun exposure while it settles.
How often can I book dermaplaning?
Treatment frequency depends on your skin type, sensitivity and goals. Many clients schedule dermaplaning several weeks apart, but your technician will recommend a personalized schedule based on how your skin responds.
