A chemical peel, also known as ‘chemexfoliation’, is a restorative cosmetic procedure that uses a chemical solution to help repair your skin and reduce the signs of aging. This treatment helps improve skin concerns such as uneven skin tone, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne. A chemical peel treatment can also be combined with other cosmetic treatments and can be performed at various layers of the skin to achieve the desired results.

How Does a Chemical Peel Treatment Work?

The procedure begins by first applying a defatting solvent on the area to be treated, and then a peeling solution is applied on the skin. The acids within the peeling solution will help raise the acidity of the skin to 3.8 pH level. This will help loosen the skin cells that were holding the dead skin, thus helping in removing the dead skin to reveal healthy and glowing skin. A neutralizing solution is then applied after the peeling process and the treated area is covered with a bandage. Depending on your skin condition, you may have to undergo mild, medium, or deep peeling, to suit your individual skin needs. You also may have to undergo this treatment more than once, to achieve optimal results.

What To Expect Post-Treatment?

After the treatment, your skin will be sensitive and more susceptible to breakouts or damage. Follow your post-treatment instructions to avoid developing skin complications. You may experience burning-like sensation, redness, or swelling of the skin. These symptoms are however mild and will go away on their own after 7-10 days. You will be advised to apply sunscreen lotion, moisturizer, and instructed to avoid tanning beds for at least 14 days after your last treatment session. In case you have undergone deep peeling treatment, then the treated area will be covered by a bandage with the healing process period taking anywhere between 2-3 weeks.
